Blood Pressure Check (including ABPM)

Free NHS blood pressure checks in pharmacy

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, yet it's a major cause of heart attacks and strokes. Under the NHS blood pressure check service, eligible adults can have their blood pressure checked free at our pharmacy, quickly and without needing to see a GP.

If your reading is high, we may offer ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) - a lightweight monitor worn over 24 hours - to get a clearer picture of your blood pressure through the day and night.

Who can have a blood pressure check

  • Patients who have not had their blood pressure checked in the last five years.

  • Patients under the age of 40 who do not have a current diagnosis of hypertension, but who request the service because they have a family history of hypertension or who are at increased risk of developing hypertension (South Asian and African-Caribbean populations) - appropriateness of a blood pressure check will be determined by the pharmacist for these cases.

  • Your GP has requested you visit a pharmacy to have your blood pressure checked - this is only for patients aged 40 or over without a prior diagnosis of high blood pressure.
